The medical community has a new focus on the mouth-body connection and the links between oral and overall health. Not only has research identified links between periodontal disease and chronic diseases – like diabetes and heart disease – oral cancer remains a serious health threat for users of tobacco and alcohol. Oral, or pharyngeal, cancer forms in the tissue of the mouth or throat. This year alone, approximately 35,000 new cases and 7,900 deaths will be attributed to this form of cancer.1
