Snackage Sure to Make Your Football Fans Smile this Sunday

Let’s be honest … For many, the commercial breaks and the food on the snack buffet is of equal importance to the outcome of the big game. So on Sunday, don’t disappoint when it comes to the preparation of finger foods for your family and friends. Make plans to serve-up a spread packed full of the nutrients needed to sustain everyone’s enthusiasm for the duration of the game, while also helping to promote a healthy smile.

Try this healthy 7-layer dip, or one of the other tooth-friendly recipes from the American Dental Association’s Mouth Healthy website.

Healthy 7-Layer Dip

3 Cups black beans
6 Oz. Greek yogurt (plain)
1 Cup shredded cheese
1 small can sliced black olives

Guacamole:
2 avocados
2 Tbsp. chopped cilantro
1 chopped chive
Juice from 1/2 lime
1 clove minced garlic
1/2 seeded and diced Jalapeño

Pico De Gallo:
2 small diced tomatoes
2 Tbsp. chopped cilantro
Juice from 1/2 lime
1/2 seeded and diced Jalapeño
1 chopped chive

To assemble:
1. Mix together all ingredients for the pico de gallo.
2. In a separate bowl, mix the ingredients for the guacamole layer.
3. The ingredients can be added in the following order (starting at the bottom): beans, yogurt, cheese, olives, guacamole, pico de gallo.

To help guests wash down this winning dish and stay well-hydrated, consider also serving fruit-infused water. The add-in options are really endless, but a few good combinations to consider are cherry and lime, orange and pineapple, lemon and blueberry and pineapple and mango. To prepare, simply squeeze citrus wedges, cube melons or crush berries into a gallon of water and stir. Refrigerate for at least two hours and serve over ice. Infused waters are best when consumed the same day they are prepared.

And remember, regardless of what is downed during the big game, don’t forget to have your family members brush their teeth for two minutes before diving into bed.
